About the Album
Released by New World Records in 1992, Why I Like Coffee presents pianist and composer Bob Nell with bassist Kelly Roberty, drummer Brad Edwards, trumpeter Jack Walrath, and trombonist Ray Anderson.
The recording grew from Nell’s longstanding work with Roberty and Edwards as the N/R/E Trio. The addition of Walrath and Anderson expands the ensemble’s tonal and improvisational range while retaining the rhythmic foundation of Nell’s working trio.
Eight of the album’s nine compositions were written by Bob Nell. The remaining selection, Taking a Chance on Love, was written by Vernon Duke and John Latouche.
